THE PC WORLD & NVIDIA CATASTROPHE

I have contacted the following with the email pasted below and I am kidding you not about what I have starred, Lol.

Google in writing, PC World, Knowhow, nVidia & EVGA by email.

THE EMAIL...

Dear Sirs

ADVENT TEGRA NOTE 7

Myself, BSc Applied Computing, and two parents are currently furious with the above device and I personally would like some answers!

1 One had to be returned because it failed to charge up?! It was exchanged!

2 A second one started to refuse being charged up and I took this back to PC World who curiously starred it had to be sent off. In the meantime the THIRD ONE, my one, had started to play up.

3 Then I was informed by the patents who requested I the two up as Christmas presents for their two daughters then tell me that the one given to me as an exchange is ALSO NOT CHARGING UP!! M

4 Mine has problems as it makes the keyboard disappear and refuses to come back. The lasso and palm detection buttons go missing for days on end and I DO mean that literally. A couple of days back whole I was rushed and panicking trying to take a photo of a page in a book for a drug called Sodium oxybate which is used for my DISABILITY the tablet told me I had no memory and refused to take a picture and stated that my sdcard was not mounted?! Weird because not only was it mounted but it had 16GB of free memory while the internal memory has 6GB?!

It also loses loads of text in a number of different text based apps  and blogger apps and the swype keyboard is so atrocious I could get a bunch of five year olds to code something better!!

I have had to go back and forth in pain because of my disability and I am furious that with all the British taxes being paid out for governing bodies, ombudsman and all these rules that all I have manage to purchase in the last twelve months is shoddy crap and used and refurbished items retailers and mail order catalogues in the UK have been selling them as new when the reality is they are returned garbage flown over from the USA!

A shame for PC World that I have a series of BLOGS!!!

Also writing emails is absolutely atrocious and for some bizarre reason that is beyond me it suddenly decided to move your cursor back up a paragraph and places it mid sentence?! Place it back to where it was after clearing up the mess it created and it will do it AGAIN?!?!

Also I have no idea where the bloody English Dictionary was sourced from but it certainly was not ENGLAND!!

I would like to know what in the hell is going on if you do not mind?!

Yours

Martin Haswell BSc

ADVENT TEGRA NOTE 7 ISSUES AND BENCHMARK

Well I just did an Antutu Benchmark test on my Advent Tegra Note 7 Tablet.

Infuriating this was because I was looking for a diagnostic tool because I am suddenly getting low memory messages and apps have been going missing too?!

The low memory message came up while playing GT Racing 2 which itself is so buggy that I personally would be embarrassed if I responsible for releasing this! It has some serious issues, it has been dropping sound on the HDMI connection everyone a bloody advert comes up but did not before it downloaded what looked like the whole game which is the second time this had happened as it went umm missing, lol.

After skating the game for playability and their claims about realistic physics I discovered today that it previously was not installing and of the upgrades I PURCHASED for my car. I went from getting no higher than seventh yesterday to finishing country miles ahead of everyone else in every race?! Idiots.

On top of this I was finishing the race in one Payton but then the game would drop me down several positions and I thought I was losing my marbles fit several hours?! Lol!

As for the memory issues this did not happen before but the tablet refused to even take a bloody photo earlier today!! Then while playing GT Racing I Keir getting a low memory warning?!

What got me earlier is it said I had low memory and memory not mounted and refused to take a picture! But in fact the Sandisk Ultra 32GB WAS MOUNTED and had 16GB of free memory!! The internal memory had 6GB free too so what the feck Android was on about I have no bloody idea?!

It gets worse I am afraid!

Only yesterday I took the third of three of these devices back to PC World because the battery was playing up and not charging. Before taking it to PC World I could not get it to turn on at all!!

The owners sister has already had hers replaced which I did for her and that one refused to charge too?! But this latest one had to be sent off and I was not pleased with that despite the fact it was not mine. So I have sent an email to nVidia who designed it and I have sent a letter to Google. The one to Google was over Android problems asking with Blogger and AdSense, lol. Oh and YouTube as I certainly feel like I am being screwed!!

However despite the unfortunate faults it scored higher than anything else on Antutu and I will include a screen shot of the results...

THE DUMB OPERATING SYSTEMS

I think I am going to walk away from Google's Android Operating System. It just seems to be slowly becoming a horrible place to be!

As some of you know I bought three Advent Tegra Note 7 Tablet PC Computers. One for me and two on behalf of friends as presents for their two girls. Well I already had to replace one of the two given for a new one which were given out as Christmas presents and now I have the second one in my home and I will be exchanging it when I return it tomorrow?!

Starting to wonder now when my one will give up the ghost?!

But regardless of this nor peering on my mind I am having other issues!

Google Play has gone from being interesting and exciting to browse to a pain in the arse I really am getting more and more feed up with using!!!

First of all there are an absolute myriad of shit on their and I do mean shit! I have list count of the number of things I have downloaded that do not work, nothing like their description and died not do what it says on the tin!! Then there are the fecking games that are just plain greedy and preying on that gaming urge that is a primary instinct in us all! In app purchases is what I am getting at!

That is of course after all the utter shite you click on because the picture looks cool, mainly suggesting a first person shooter with console class graphics, only to see the screenshots and think ' what the FECK is this shit, it looks like the old days of 8 BIT gaming?!'

Of course yeah that is why I searched for something with an nVidia Tegra 4 processor so that I can play 1980s games and gear up the planet with all the wasted extra power?! Lol!.

I also got a an App Shifter and that is what it is actually called, unless your looking at it on Google Play then it's called something fecking else entirely. I moved a few dozen apps including some big games. Only lately I have been clicking in things and being told it is not installed?!

This happened with an app I bought, OfficeSuite Pro, because Quick Office is now crap because Google got ahold of it and I paid a tenner fit that too!! Only I have just realised that my documents in this app are NOT BEING SAVED TO GOOGLE DRIVE?!

For the love of a fecking GOD!!

Then tonight I realised that my new game I was playing of GT RACING 2 (real racing it states) had also give missing?! I then opened App Shifter only to click on SD Card apps to see just TWO!! TWENTY TWO would be closer!!

Then there is the game itself, ever since I bought something IN-APP things went downhill... FAST!!

I ended up with a Toyota GT85 II. Only straight away I was having difficulties and found that I had to drift to stand any chance of going around a bend and stating competitive with race leaders!! I thought that maybe some upgrades would since this. This was also because other cars were rounding bends perfectly level and without drifting! I ended up maxing the upgrades to the car without realising and things remained the same. Also despite being maxed out I was being offered upgrades before each race?!

Also I was seemingly spinning out each time someone touched me which was not happening to them and added to this they were never spinning out. Then there is the old positions remain the same syndrome within the race energy your the only one ever doing any overtaking or even being overtaken?!

Another common thing is never getting higher than 8th after several attempts on one track and then getting first in the next race at the first go?!

Some tracks feels as if my tyres are manufactured using ice while others not quite so bad. Maybe cardboard, lol.

The last updated, like the other two, have made absolutely no fecking difference to Android and added to this the swipe keyboard is still substituting words whereby you got it spot on but it offers you not only the WRONG WORD but often not even one that starts with the same letter?! You know the...letter...that... you... touched... on... first... which... you... would... not... make... a... mistake with!!!

If your going to scree up the coding at least get the wetting word that starts with the correct letter for Christ sakes?!

If I was Eric Schmidt and I had some Android OS as a business solution I would be crapping my pants right about now!!

So I am getting extremely feed up with Google and Android.

Only the alternatives are crap!

Sorry Apple I know you would like many to think that your system is great but that it's not doing well because the rest of the world is voting and infringing, but no!

I simply never realised just how bland the iOS was until I had a few weeks to mess around with one. Also I hate iTunes as it is also bland and on Windows it is good awful slow! Mac OS is much better as an OS to look at and use!

Maybe Jason Bradbury was not plugging Microsoft's Surface 2 dye to sponsorship?

But then where Google and Android have a problem with being far too laid back and open Microsoft are the polar opposite and doggedly sticking to their closed system which would not be that bad if not for preventing a number of other people coding browsers for their system!

My mate had the options of IE and UC?! No Safari, Dolphin, Chrome, Firefox or any others either.

So one choice is far too bland and boring added to way over expensive in Apple.

Another is far too awkward, butt ugly and closed system with not many apps or choices with Microsoft.

Lastly you have far too many choices, too unstable, far too many so issues and lazy or incompetent coding with Google.

Now what annoys me is that any one of these could read this and realise that they could alter their system to stand head and shoulders above the other two?!

However I will wager that they won't!

Or maybe one of the many others I have been hearing about will rise like a Phoenix from the flames and keep above the other two?!

If it is the latter paragraph I got they then do not just become the fourth arsewipe in a long list of arsewipes?! If it is greedy shareholders that come along then suddenly decide that they know better than the inventors... well get them to read this oust and I will tell them to shut the feck up and go back and crawl under the rich from whence they came!

In the meantime I can only hope that things improve and I suspect now that it just might be the big 'M' as they are already working to replace the travesty that was Windows 8, with Windows 9 of whatever it ends up being called?

I AM NOT ALONE

The title for this piece hit me immediately due to the realisation that there are many out there with a similar view or opinions to me.

In many of my subjects this happens a lot.

Yet one particular and very miserable but necessary blog subject I am not so sure, despite it being the most popular subject by several country miles.

But I am expecting this to change this year by quite some margin too?!

But I spotted this link of someone speaking about gaming and the different platforms and controllers available. He is covering a preview of Valve's Steam OS for PCs. Valve were the people behind the Half Life games originally and I say that because it has been ten years I think now since I played Half Life 2 and quite disappointingly finished it within 48 hours or so!

Now for me at the time this here highlighted the absolute largest and primary problem for games. It took an absolute age for them to surface, sometimes with a lengthy and frustrating series of false starts, and then after the wow period had barely did down they were over in a little bit longer than the blink of an eye.

For the most part this was largely why it was not THAT disappointing to be without a gaming computer for some of the periods that I have.

Things have improved albeit extremely slowly and very little. But improved they have.

Well except there is no Half Life 3!

In these last ten years Valve have instead been concentrating on their Steam platform. Essentially a short of browser but only their channels and fit downloading their offerings... or rather other people's offerings. For a small percentage of course. It was supposed to change everything... in reality it had changed very little except Valve's bank balance.

It arrived at the same time that Half Life 2 did. When I discovered that the box I just paid for did not have Half Life 2 in it I was furious. When I got my next bill from the phone company for the download data charges I had a coronary! It was hailed as the future of gaming while I thought it was a big streaming pike of dogs poo and saw an example of yet another lazy fat bastard wanting to earn shit loads while sitting on their arses playing games and surfing their pie hole with.... PIES, coffees and doughnuts?!

As it turns out I never downloaded anything else on Steam for over ten years!! Weird, huh?

What never occurred to me despite the fact I knew that it's existence continued was that I could still walk into a Game store and see PC Titles on a rack?! After more than ten years to?!

So what happened?!

Will quite obviously the majority felt as I did. I still prefer to walk into a store and then buy a case of my beloved title, especially if it's a special edition with bigger box, maps, bumper size manual and the like. Nothing can compare to that feeling of opening the box and seeing the extra bumpf inside. NOTHING!

My other problem was with prior that stated that the consoles would eventually kill the PC of and this was so deluded for so many reasons and on so many levels. As far as I was concerned any tech journalist who stated this should be whether if themselves and fired?!?!

Well ten years have passed since it's inception and yet it had not taken over the world. Not had the PC been confirmed to history just yet. Still the statements are made though, only this time around the landscape is somewhat markedly different to what it was teen years ago!

Back then there was no Windows 8... sorry I meant Windows H8! Or Windows 80 to 83, lol.

Steam has not taken over the world but after some noises emanating from their direction and everyone and his brother thinking it would be Half Life 3 it turned out to be a Steam Operating System!!

Still I thought this had more potential than Steaming piles of... downloads, lol.

Immediately there was talk of the double touchpad controller and I thought that these controllers must be better then even I thought as they are still sticking with a gamepad?!

But today I find this report by someone with both a brain and and a good memory?!

Lmao!

Opinion: What is the point of SteamOS? I can't think of a single one - http://pulse.me/s/KZiSN

AMD A10-7850K

When I started this blog I wanted to do something a little different.

I have spent years waiting for launches and then days waiting for benchmarks. Over all this time several things started started to appear to me.

1) More and more benchmarking programs started to appear

2) Stupid people started to work for free for a number of companies by becoming pay per free sales executives (read: very sad fanboys)

3) More and more people both doing benchmarks as well as rowing in forums did not know what they were talking about

So I picked up a few techniques.

When I buy a CPU I do so by looking forwards and NOT BACKWARDS! Quite how some numb-skulls can justify a thousand quid chip because of some very quick number in a three year old program is beyond all understanding. Anything currently out there will run just fine too and you would be hard pressed to notice. However many out there come across in reviews to insinuate that you would. NO!

So I started to flick around different websites that are just begging like besotted love struck dogs on heat for site hits. Scrabbling around for words and graphs that extend over many pages to make you think they know what they are talking about when they give you their conclusion.

The truth is I wade through them all looking for one or two signs that lead me to the truth.

Today I did just that and I found it too!

I was specifically looking for something that showed the benefits of all the goodies AMD had included within their new Kaveri chip and specifically the A10-7850K. I also reminded myself that whatever I found would only be an early example of improvement and that this would gradually get better and better over time. I was in for a surprise.

Now I cannot recall what the benchmark was, may come back and edit this at a later date, but what I found kind of blew me away!

While wading through a great many pages of people muttering on about useless and pointless i3 chips I found a benchmark whereby the A10-7850K was 5 times faster than an i5?! Not an i3 but an i5!! Five times faster!!

Now here is where I use my noggin whereas many do not...

Now once I have seen these few benchmarks that show these kinds of speeds and improvements my brain then decides on the following...

1) Everythiong else is badly programmed or just not programmed to show the benefits and so redundant..

2) No coder worth his salt would code their new software in the same manner currently and ignore all the extra processing power on offer, ergo making said benchmarking software redundant.

3) If any of the benchmarking programs were any good they would not be plowing through loads and loads of software making most of them...REDUNDANT!!!

4) Any software engineer wants his, hers of their software to sell and be more popular over all others and so will want it to be faster and  look better than all their rivals, therefore NOT ignoring all the extra processing power on offer, making all benchmark programs....well REDUNDANT! LOL.

What I find highly amusing is that I am always excited about a new CPU or GPU because I am thinking that when software and games come out FOR this chip that they will be several steps ahead over whats currently available. Now I assume that is what everyone else thinks and it IS what they should think!!

But they start harping on about an extra second in this program or a few frames per second in that program as if this renders the chip unusable?! Stoopid!!

Now factor in on top of what I said about the HSA making it five times faster in one benchmark, 45% faster in Battlefield 4 and the fact that much of the future software will be coded for the next generation consoles which will be VERY PC like and it will be a very good time.

There is just one other thing that no one has mentioned within all this!!

What benefits will Valve's Steam OS bring to the table?

Linux users have been crowing on about how Linux is much faster than Windows, excluding Ubuntu and Unity in that statement, and if Valve can prove that is certainly the case right across the board then oh my god!!

I have been hearing of some noise along the grapevines of many developers, coder and software houses being a little bit more than excited and making motions to move towards certain coding techniques with the AMD hUMA and HSA in the forefront of their minds.

I think I am now beginning to see why and as much as I would still like to see a 6 CPU and 8 GPU APU I think that at the earliest possible opportunity I will start gathering together some bits and pieces to finally build that rig I am 6 years overdue of building?!

Still I saved a lot of money from all those rigs I never built! LMAO!!

Now I cannot wait for all that software to be released that will take advantage of it all, I think give it a month or two should start seeing some things appear?!

Woohoo!

THE ONE EIGHTY DEGREE TURN

Intel has a long history of deliberate over pricing, anti-trust along with anti-competetive behaviour. I have noted that they have reached such a size that they do not really worry about breaking any laws. They always look for other ways to gain an advantage even though they have had a huge one for quite sometime now.

A couple of years back I was quite interested in AMD's new APUs like their first one of Llano. I intended to get a laptop with one in bit ended up getting something else. A little time later I remember visiting retails stores expecting over half the stock to be powered by AMD's APUs with just one or two GPUs. It never quite happened.

Instead what did curiously happen was something that did not make sense to me and that was the talk of Ultrabooks. These things looked very svelte in all honesty but if I wanted that I would go with an Apple (ugh). They were also graphically underpowered and had the first solid state disk drives has opposed to the spinning hard drives. Only these were mostly 128BGB and were not even enough to store what I had on my current laptop!

Before long every store I walked into was awash with these Ultrabooks?! AMD based laptops did not amount to half the number of Ultrabooks on offer. Then there were the All-In-One PCs that mostly had Intel Core i3 CPUs in them?! I lost count of the number I walked straight by because they had Intel's i3 and i5 and very few AMD APUs?!

I also never saw anyone actually seriously looking at them and I did fancy a Lenovo model that did have an APU because it did look good. But I did not. I thought at the time how mad it was and simply could not understand how these manufacturers thought for one moment that people were going to buy them. Not anyone that understood their hardware, that is for sure. Yet they were slightly over-priced too and everywhere.

After all this time I now see this report with the link provided below that states that Acer got into troubles and they blame it on the Ultrabooks?

What you mean that not everyone thinks that Intel CPUs on their own are all that?! Even in slim and sexy metal chassis with nice keyboards?! Should not believe all the forums you read on the Internet, nor Intel for that matter.

The funny part about all this is that Intel's own questionable behaviour may well be coming back to bite them in the arse?! Ultrabooks making everyone a little touchy and wary and with AMD chips going inside the consoles and not the talk about Kaveri and its four different approaches to gaining speed on Intel.

Should be an interesting year for sure.
