Well it has been awhile since I typed anything out about the up and coming CPUs and GPUs.
But then I really do not like to use every excuse to publish something, like many like to do, and then harp on for the first couple of paragraphs explaining how I had previously stated this with a series of dates that go back a year or two, YAWN!
I always check though and have a read around once or twice a week, though sometimes I leave it a couple of weeks so that news and rumours can build up.
So at the moment it is looking like AMD's Polaris is going to be with us in a couple of months time and thankfully their Zen processor in October, see? I ... SNIP!
This is great news and better still seems to be the buzz about them. The lower power draws for Polaris 10, as they are naming it, sound absolutely great as does that being predicted for Zen.
The latest seems to be projecting an 8 core Zen releasing in October of this year, 2016, but I am still expecting something with a larger core count than 8 and purely because of the 14nm Finfet lithography they are using. This is not merely just a shrink but, as I understand it to be, a stacking too.
So if you can make an 8 core processor on 28nm you can make a 16 on 14nm, theoretically though the size may have to alter slightly.
Now start to stack them?
I would imagine that in the first versions the stacking may only be usable if done once, but later on with some refinement may stack three layers high, with luck. So HBM memory could go on the third layer, which I would wager is what the Zen+ turns out to be? We will see.
The only thing I worry about is that the consoles will hold back many game developers from utilising this extra power ... unless ... the Nintendo NX, fingers crossed, uses these new Polaris GPUs or that the XBOne can be upgraded, via a plug in graphics card. Microsoft have alluded to as much and lets be honest, Sony had that Vaio Carbon laptop several years ago that had that separate GPU in a box ... umm, thingey! Lol.
As they are meant to be so similar it stands to reason that the Playstation 4 can probably be upgraded graphics chip wise too? Umm, it is Sony!
Of course I am simply going to have to build one!
My only worry is that I build an 8 core Zen PC build only to have them release a 12 or 16 core Zen chip two or three months later?! Grr! Maybe when Zen is finally released we would have found out whether or not a higher core count Zen will release in early 2017?
I also note that in the wake of Polaris things were at first quiet on the nVidia front but then a flurry of information started to surface.
It is times like this that puts credence in both the new info, nVidia, to that previously released, AMD, as one is seen as a knee-jerk reaction to the other releasing details. At least that's one of the techniques I have used to separate the wheat from the chaff, and I do so hate chaff.
It will be such an interesting time to see what Zen, Polaris and Pascal can do and of course added to this will be Intel's own knee-jerk reaction to AMD's releases. So if you think that the second half of 2016 is going to be both mad and exciting, well just wait until the first half of 2017!
For me the Intel chips have done bugger all in the way of progression and added to that they have remained artificially high, some VERY high, with the higher core count chips of 6 and 8 cores. This is so bloody typical of Intel of old and it seemed like forever back in the day to go from a 386 to a 486 CPU, the two chips that preceded the Pentium, which was in essence the 586.
Though I use an AMD A10-7850K right now I will be building with a solely Zen CPU core next time around. The highest core count they release or at least intend to release between October 2016 and probably March 2017, if my nerves can hold out that long.
Saying that I am still interested in what APUs they will be releasing using the Zen cores along with what they will do with the GPU side of the APU. I mean to think of something as could be as powerful as a R9-380 or a Maxwell in an APU? Maybe if it turned out to be better still these could have a dramatic effect on the Virtual Reality headsets also releasing over similar time frames to all these other chips.
I like the idea now, finally, of having a really small form factor PC that can do everything I ask of it and store everything I ask of it and do tasks in a fraction of the time they do now? Oooh.
Also about that time 4K might be becoming commonplace and in so doing mobile telecoms companies and other IP providers will have to up their speeds and stop screwing the public for simply looking at a few webpages and downloading a few small files.
Tech simply has to keep up with tech. But they are such lamentable human beings and completely greedy that I think it will take an uproar from customers and government then forcing them before they do this.
A 4GB download limit was utterly laughable when I first saw them set the figure several years ago, now beyond ridiculous and soon to be 'way out there' ridiculous.

HARDWARE JOURNALISTS BALONEY
It was funny and I have spoken of this before several times but I used to worship CustomPC Magazine!
Not anymore as they have become one sided and biased and suddenly do not look too sure that they know what they are talking about or reporting on. As I have touched upon before they have also, like that JML character, lambasted AMD and it's CPUs and the company or its products hardly get a mention or recommendation.
Well ONE does and has done regularly for awhile now and that would be one of the AMD APUs with the integrated GPU.
Now what I am about to tell you that I read in the magazine I could not quite believe I was reading it and my initial thoughts were 'You bloody idiots!'
It seems they felt obliged to make comments about AMD and because of the fact that despite them being a PC enthusiast magazine and talking up Intel CPUs for many, many months now they may feel a little embarrassed that the three big companies of Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo all disagreed with them and all voted to use upcoming, UPCOMING, AMD APUs for their games machines.
But what got my attention and I have retained in my memory since I saw it is the sentence they included that stated how under-powered these machines will be and that many people have far more power in their PCs already?!
I simply could NOT believe that they stated this line and then went to print with it?! I should really go and view the article on their site and see if they are being lambasted for printing it?
Reasons being that, and I have covered before hand, these machines are going to be having games far more graphics intensive than their previous machines. END OF! They are not going to release machines less powerful then the previous one, the same power or even slightly more powerful as they will NOT sell in this climate and that is the end of it. Simple as in other words.
Now they obviously have learnt and know something about the chip they are using that we are simply not privy to as yet and this much should be glaringly obvious. Also this new chip will be 8 cores but as I understand it only one graphics unit. I have repeatedly spoken about this and I seem to be the only one that finds this arrangement extremely odd. I stated that I thought as there were going to be no less that 8, EIGHT, of these AMD Jaguar Cores that there must be TWO GPU chips too. Unless it is a custom made chip that will just house the 8 CPU Jaguar Cores and just ONE GPU.
But there was one other aspect of these new console chips that I had not considered or likely not aware of at the time and that is this heterogeneous memory access that will be included in the new chips. This allows both halves of the APU to access the same memory. SO in theory then we can imagine that some of the Jaguar cores can then take on elements of a game and produce what the software needs immediately with no lag or waiting?! This is rumoured to increase the speed of the APUs somewhat. Added to this we know little else about these CPU cores or the actual GPU cores that will be used or the levels of customisation that ill be included.
Yes everyone like to use big numbers to show at you with the word FLOPS but as many are increasingly finding this is losing its...lustre. Now for why and exactly why CustomPC Magazine should not have said that and have shown to be true what I noticed about them for quite sometime now and that they have obviously been given some incentive to champion Intel chips.
The problem they have is many fold and one of these is that it is very possible that come the launch, or even prior to launch, the new games to be showcasing the new machines may LOOK like the NEXT GENERATION of games. Simply because going by their statement in CustomPC Magazine ... well they simply will not?! Someone with a Geforce TITAN Graphics card will be playing games that look FAR BETTER than anything on the next generation consoles?! OOPS!
No what I have expected to happen all along is for everyone owning a PC Gaming rig who has paid out £400 to £950 for a graphics card as going to feel stupid and not to mention CHEATED?! After all someone will be able to build a PC around the time the consoles come out and get an all in one CPU and GPU that is very similar in performance to the consoles and the chip will cost around £100 or so?!
So just to make a glaringly obvious comparison here someone has recently set up a gaming PC with a Intel Core i7 with 6 CPU Cores and 2 extra they lasered off because they do not want you to have them yet and a Geforce Titan. For the Intel chip this is likely to be around £600 and maybe more for a chip they INTENTIONALLY crippled. You have also paid £800 for a graphics card that you now realise has been vastly underused and that all the games are just NOT programmed well enough on the PC. You have paid up to
£1,500 on just TWO items and minus anything else on a PC that will finish up being over £3,000 so that it plays games the programmers and companies could not be bothered to rewrite for your hardware?!
With AMD you can now build a next generation PC gaming rig for a little over a tenth of what you just paid out?! That plays the next generation games?!
To think that people actually buy these overpriced components and build these rigs and avoid AMD and see them as inferior and close to death. They all go on-line taking the absolute piss out of AMD and their chips but all thee of the big boys that dictate what games are played have now all chosen AMD?!
AMD did struggle and had some very unfair things stated about it and if it is struggling and was not selling chips we have to ask ourselves why this is? Well would that not be down to the one magazine dedicated to building PCs that only seem to think that their is ONE x86 CPU manufacturer in the world?
Now if this is the case and they have been DELIBERATELY IGNORING AMD as much as possible one HAS to wonder WHY this is?! Intel by any chance?!
Like much of my corruption blog it just seems to be a level on control and manipulation because a bunch of people believe the hype and falsifications that go on.
I would lave to have been in the building at AMD after sealing the contracts to actually supply the chips?! They must have all been grinning like Cheshire cats at all the people that were biased and/or bought off by Intel to avoid them. SO much so that now they feel they have to make statements of a U-Turn nature that STILL contain glaring errors?!
God knows what was in the rest of the report, I read that line, laughed out loud literally and put the magazine back on the shelf in Sainsburys. I then continued laughing as I walked away with a big grin on my face thinking that the second half of 2013 is going to be VERYYYY INTERSTINNNNG and in more ways than ONE?!
Hmm maybe that guy going round trashing AMD who goes by JML something or other is the secret owner of CustomPC or Bit-Tech or whoever is now in charge over there?!
LMAO!

PARALLEL PROCESSING GAMES TO EMBARRASS FANBOYS BIG TIME STYLEE!!
I was reading about the AMD Jaguar chip to be found inside the new Sony PS4 and the XBOX when a couple of things occurred to me!
First off there was all this talk when Bulldozer released form so-called gaming experts about ho there are NO games that use more than a core or two for processing and how HARD it is to do this.
I pretty much knew the first one was not true though admittedly these were minimal in numbers. I ALSO know that the SECOND ONE was not true and the number of times I wanted to join up to a website just to go onto a clicky forum of armchair experts to explain to them in the most POLITE way that they were talking nonsense, oddly enough most of them stupid enough to own a Core i3, but thought better of it as the word TROLL will just be banded about like women at a wedding with far too much confetti!
No the reason I now realise that there are is not much parallelism in games is because of one thing and one thing only...THE EXISTENCE OF CONSOLES?!
Or in other words so PC Gamers can get an excuse when really there are being ripped off for ported games?!
FOUL! That is what I hear them crying out at the top of their lungs at my use of the words rip and off but it is and no matter which way you slice it that IS what it is. Another bunch of cash for a game yu have already created and you do not want to be bothered doing it all over again for the PC! But you want the same amount of cash coming in though?!
EDIT: John Taylor of AMD announces a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT FOR GAMERS REGADRING AMD HARDWARE?!?! (Oh this just gets better and better!!)
Courtesy of Tom's Hardware: CLICK HERE!
END EDIT
Then while I was reading and trying to figure out exactly what this confusing AMD Jaguar is, my money on TWO PROCESSORS SIDE BY SIDE AND CROSSFIRE like they did with the twin socket FX boards a few years back, I realised that this is all about to be proved of course!!
Whether it is ONE Jaguar processor or TWO side by side make no nevermind. It has eight cores and THAY WILL USE THEM, or its a complete waste of money building the things based on a processor with that much silicon.
Now according to the armchair afficiandos a Core i3 would have been perfectly adequate?!
According to Custom PC your only processor is an Intel one?!
I have long since complained about this and even emailed these experts who sale a magazine based o building PCs prmarily for GAMING.
Well now I find it really bloody hilarious as I have been proved that had a bought into a subscription to Custom PC I would have wasted my money and been ripped off as...
1) Games will be PROGRAMMED from now on on BOTH CONSOLES, if not ALL THREE, for not only AMD Processor cares but for PARALLELISM and ...
2) AMD's GPUs too?!?! IN CROSSFIRE POSSIBLY?!
3) GPU Cores also used for parallelism?
Oddly enough I used to find this a bit annoying when Intel fans went on about this with their nVidia cards. Run down parallel processing when talking about AMD's FX chips but talk it up when talking about your nVidia cards?
Really funny. I think some people and even forums should be banned for being stupid or just contradciting, whichever is a better fit for the annoying ones, lol.
Now to all the AMD people, plus the ones that took the piss, cried like babies and yelled like demented Banshees and went over to Intel and paid three times as much for their processor with a board they will then have to replace a year later and nVidia Graphics when they are too focused on tablets...
...whose laughing now DUMB-ARSES?!?!
I think its bloody hilarious, really I do! So much over the top shit about AMD on websites, forums and even YouTube!! Loads of these moronic idiots how now managed to be shown up as the IDIOTS THEY ARE by none other than the very corporation they lambasted for the longest time, AMD!!
That is soo funny and i cannot help but wonder how long it will be, if indeed it has not even started, when the AMD fans will be going on-line with the Panzer-Fausts (flame throwers) and scorching the chat rooms and forums and toasting the Intel camps to the walls?!?!
I might give it a week or two for this knowledge to suddenly occur to them get posted and then goes around like wildfire?!
Well that is unless of course though are just so much the experts they are now lambasting both Sony and Microsoft for using two year old technology and know better ate doing these things than the big guns do themselves?!
Could they be that bloody stupid?
I have to admit that even I did not see this one coming, a GRAND SLAM across the board on the console games with both CPUs and GPUs for AMD?!
You think now that this might have been their plan all along?! Now a few interesting points to watch out for over the next 12 months, or 6 months into the release of the consoles...
1) You think now this MIGHT have been WHY they bought ATI in the first place?!
2) Do you think it entriely possible that while Intel were overcharging you for crippled processors AMD WAS INDEED concentrating on gamers but NOT bringing out the all killer AMD FX everyone wanted and producing better APUs to get into the console machines?!
3) Do you think it possible that before very long PC gaming will improve dramatically, including even with the porting, and that this was down to AMD's APUs being in the consoles and therefore you will have AMD to thank for this?
Yes I now realise that the next 12 months are going to be extremely interesting, extremely exciting and EXTREMELY FUNNY!!
LMAO!!
