A SMALL BACKLASH

I am stating this is small as it appears to be thus far.

This may turn out to be something far bigger in time and mostly because most of the drooling people make the first few hundred comments because they cannot wait. Plus they do not mind bending over with their pants around their ankles to get what they are drooling over.

However due to the location of the link below I finally have something that shows that others are beginning to see that I stated bloody years ago.. yes, literally years.

Even as I am typing on my junk Roccat keyboard that keeps adding keystrokes I am thinking of the irony of all the ripping off that has and is going on.

Now I was not familiar with the prices of nVidia's 970 and 980 families of graphics cards so this was kind of lot on me.

I also want to state that I used to buy every issue of Custom PC magazine until I started noticing two things ...

  1. They were talking through their arses about what you can and cannot play games on which seemed to tally up nicely to the fact that ...
  2. Intel and nVidia tech was always praised, even when things surfaced later on about total bollocks going on with the tech. TIM, 5% increases in performance, 20% prices and other things
Now then...

I stated long ago that I stopped purchasing Custom PC Magazine and that despite the cover price being hiked beyond that of many books they were becoming biased to the point of lying.

Now they recently did a review of nVidia's 1080 and 1070 graphics cards, which I for one was disappointed in. VR performance was a big improvement ... everything else ... not so much no matter what reviewers say what ... they are blowing it out of their holes. The process node should have been better than this and some tests suggest it was a decrease.

Now the part I did not pick up on ... the prices were substantially higher than the cards they replaced, the 970 and the 980. Some have said this is not the case ... fuck ... off!

The other thing is that I thought immediately ... hang on a moment ... you pay for a wafer and that price is fixed ... so with smaller chip[s your getting way, way (no exaggeration here), way more chips per wafer than with the previous ones.

In theory this can mean that the cost of any one chip could be 50% to 70% that of the previous chips on the bigger process nodes. So how come the new cards have gone up by that same percentage?

Because they think we are are all idiots? Or because they think there are enough idiots to keep those selling at the overblown prices for at least 6 months to a year?!

Bot to my surprise on Custom PC's site a few commenters have pointed out this becoming obvious and not just with Custom PC Magazine. In fact they mention a number of the YouTube reviewers who are seen as the big guns on YouTube, like JaysTwoCents and LinusTechTips. Oh dear.

One asked why they had not seen one single mention of the high prices and that everyone gives the stuff the recommended and the extreme awards. They rightly point out that we are supposed to trust these guys to inform us honestly.

In some of the possible reasons in the comments there is the excuses that they have to rely on these vendors giving them stuff to survive ... well does that not then suggest that YouTube and Google are being totally unfair to YouTubers and Bloggers?!

Google? Unfair? Noooo, there's a surprise! The company that claims to be for the people, humane and fair?! Yeah, right.

So for me to see people actually saying this is like a breath of fresh air and relief that some more of the thinks I quote, claim and predict (albeit on another blog) has and is coming to light.

The other hilarious thing is that I was involved in a family argument for my Christmas because one family member who is into music tech believes all the crap they give out. Oddly it was about What Hifi Magazine and I pointed out that one review they printed was utter shit. Well blow me down if What Hifi does not go and get mentioned in the comments of the Custom PC Magazine website comments?!

I will have to bookmark that for a later date but will tell other family members that also thought the one I argued with was naive.

The only thing is this is small potatoes. I know it will take an inordinate amount of time for the majority to finally bloody realise that not only is this practice going on but has been going on for a very, very long time!

*SIGH*

THE CHANGING TIMES OF GAMES

Oops, sorry not ben on for awhile ... loads of health issues, meetings with Doctors and trying to tailor a series of prescription drugs...always a pain in the arse... sometimes literally, LOL!

I also note that nVidia have just announced/launched, cannot remember which, tweo new cards based on new and revised silicon. These are the GTX 980 and GTX 970. Thewy sound pretty good too and its nice to see they are not over a thousand US dollars each! In fact I think that might have been over a thousand GB pounds each?! Lol! No these are around £420 and £250 respectively.

Now just waiting to see if AMD does anything? I have been wairting for something like this to happen and now the first salvo has been fired and at much more sensible prices its just a matter of time before the first ripples take effect! Hopefully followed by more ripples. This is because of the lower pricing and AMD will have to price their old chips accordingly. If they produce new cards in the coming weeks then everything getsa cheaper still? Hopefully, lol.

Well it would have to because if I had £250 spare right now I would buy the GTX 970 and it has been a long time since I have wanted to buy an nVidia Graphics card. I do like to support AMD in all honesty and I do not like Intel's ludicrous prices. Yes their latest 8 core chip sounds great ... until you look at the overall price of the setup!

Yes cannot wait to see what they have in store with their Radeon 370s and 380s! Ooh yeah interested to see what Carrizo is like to and any mentions on the design that will follow the Bulldozer family. The node shrinks for CPU, APU and GPUs are really annoyingly taking their time! For me this always brings the greatest benefits and surprises...well OK most of the time, lol.

Ooh yes and I noticed that PC Gamer magazine did an article on CPUs and APUs in their latest issue? So glad I did not buy it because in the A10-7850K review they mentioned the word "bottleneck"?! Oh dear! They really need to do their homework, lol. They even stated that you would not use it in a gaming PC?! It is not a gaming chip?!

Well thats fecking funny as I have been gaming on it for a couple of months now! My word you simply cannot get the staff, lol! Considering the cover prices of magazines these days you would think they would put the effort in? Huh, just had a thought and that is that I would hate to see the comments following that article once it is online, lmao!

Sorry PC Gamer but I am afraid that you are wrong as there are videos on YouTube where all that was tested and even an Intel guy had to admit their was no bottleneck and the test rig is being kept to go to LAN parties! Ooh dear, its a reason ahy I am very wary about buying magazines lately as its like the electronic goods here in the UK, mostly other people's garbage, lol.

Anyhoo I have acquired a number of titles over the last month purely because I wanted to get into each series before playing the more up to date games.

I also wanted to see what the hype was all about so ...

The Witcher 2 (great but Kayran bit is stupid and unfair, forgot to drink potions and unable to so have to go back to earlier save, if I can that is lol)

Mass Effect 2 (Yes I can see why its well liked as I like it, though I hate the way you navigate the Normandy! Already looking forward to Mass Effect 3, hope the clever use of spacebar for cover remains?!)

Dragon Age Origins (Great Story Design and Characters but invisible walls are a big no-no for me ... saying that I STILL play it and very much looking forward to Dragon Age Inquisition)

Borderlands (first one and bloody love it! Like Witcher 2 stuck on a hard bit at the vault!)

FarCry 3 (Loved it until like The Witcher it gives you a really stupid scenario thats unfair and annoying, waterfall no guns knocked out again and a helicopter, and enough to put me off ever buiying FarCry 4!)

are installed along with ...

The Witcher (stuck at the witch and the hounds lol)

Deus Ex Human Revolution (I am playing again! LOVE IT! Wish it was a bit more open mind you and bigger maps)

Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare (hmmm over rated and stuck at unfair point, lol)

Oh yeah there is Dead Island Riptide but that is being uninstalled as it is utter garbage I am afraid, no two ways about it. The list of faults is ridiculous with the obvious two being ...

Well you cannot swim which makes it kind of hard when you crash your boat on some rocks!

There are no bloody weapons in the game.

Zombies seem to come back to life. Well respawn oce your a certain distance away when you have just a bloody machete you have to whack them with a dozen times to behead the damn things which I later realised was pointless.

Road far too narrow for the cars those chose to put in the game!

Oh and even better than being unable to swim is being hit by a Zombie's hands yet your unable to hit him with a long machete?!

So I see Dead Island as more something for kids, but then its so bloody violent and gross I do not like the idea that its aimed at kids! Wish I had bought Left 4 Dead 2.

Now just in case one idiot that left comments on one of my YouTube videos comes here and reads, along with anyone else as grey matter challenged as him, I will include the following games I played previously ...

Doom 2
Quake 1 to Arena
Unreal (Yes the FIRST ONE LOL, and others)
Homefront
Total War
Return to Castle Wolfenstein (loved this one, cannot believe Id today)
Fear
Deus Ex Invisible War (still have this one here)
FarCry (still have this one here)
Comanche 3 or 4 (still have this one)
X Beyond The Frontier
X2 Reunion (err no Rebirth as I read the reviews lol)
Jedi Knight - Jedi Outcast

...many others I cannot recall

If I want to go further back ... COMMODORE AMIGA! Not far enough?! Look at bottom!

Shadow Of The Beast
Birds of Prey
Frontier (Elite follow up)
Xyphos (like Elite)
F15 Strike Eagle 2 (Microprose ... God cannot believe I remembered that?! lol)
A6 Intruder
Falcon (loved the Rowan Software stuff)
Wing Commander (all of them)
Freelancer
Combat Pilot

...many others I cannot recall off the top of my head

If you want FURTHER BACK?! Commodore VIC-20 lmao!!

Err cannot recall games probably things like Defender and Scramble.

Before the VIC-20 it was an Atari 2600 I think it was called with Air Sea Battle, Space Invaders, Pac-Man, The Gauntlet and the like, lol.

PUTTING LIFE BACK INTO SKYRIM

Well now I am very happy!

In fact I am about to play Skyrim again once I have posted thisn up.

It turns out that the previous use of the setmenurace command to try and get rid of Vamprism screwed up the game and I was unable to feed! Go figure!

Anyway I discovered on the Internet that you have to reset your race as a vampire too with player.setrace (your race without brackets and space)vampire and I had changed mine from umm whatever it was to Breton so mine was setplayer.setrace bretonvampire!

Once I had this solution I was going to gather others up to try but cjanged my mind, went into the game, hit the console key, inputted that line and bang! I was able to feed again!!

I then immediately went to the first Inn, I was in Rorkstead I think, asked the innkeeper about rumours which I did not think would work becuse I was miles away and he told me about Falion and that cure Vamprism quest was started again! Boy, oh boy was I relieved to see that!

But then I still had the probably problem that the quest would not complete, as it had happened the first time around?! I need not have worried as it all went tickedy-boo!

OH WHAT A BLOODY RELIEF!!

Now I really have no bloody idea why I contracted the vampire disease TWICE! I find that extremely annoying and the first time I thought I had accidentally eaten Vampire dust?! I mean think about it? Look at the bloody aggravation you have to go through to bloody feed? There is no bloody way anyone fed upon me?! I hardly ever sleep anyway unless I am at home!

Which by the way is either Breezehome in Whiterun or Proudspire Manor in Solitude.

Now I just hope that when the next Elder Scrolls game comes out they sort out that crap?! I mean there is plenty of gamers going mad about it, or was, on the Internet!

I am taking the completion of the game slowly now and have not got the expansion packs yet. This is partly because I am playing it on a low end device and I think I may be finally able to build something a fair bit more powerful that what I have?! FINALLY?!

I have been asked a question, you see, to do with my battles over corruption and it is the sort of question that the answer to which I would be told and by a solicitor! Not be asked in the manner that I have! In fact if the questions answer does not come to fruition I will be one very pissed of chappy!!

Still and even so I do expect this year to be the year when several of my endeavours start to pay off?

Fingers crossed!

As for Skyrim, well... I need to slow down a bit and start working my way through the myriad of quests that I have not completed because I become distracted by other things! As for my two houses this pales into insignificance when you see the possessions!

I have been just returning home and piling them into draws, cupboards and safes! In fact once I had become a stage 4 vampire again I could not get to Solitude so I ended up using Breezehome in Whiterun as it is far, far easier to get in and out without having to kill anyone or getting killed! Though many civilians still got killed because wherever I went whenever anyone attacked me, which is everyone, the soldiers and guards would chase them down and kill them due to protecting me. As the NPCs were coded badly to which things just carry on attacking you until they are dead many people died.

In fact the last few times I visited Whiterun it looked deserted!

Also it would be great if every time you entered a store the owners and traders did not always have the same piddly amount of cash! Which is primarily why I dropped all the possessions into my two houses!

Also I lost my saved games in Fallout New Vegas, no idea why as I did not with Skyrim! So I am avoiding Fallout until I have upped my compute power and then playing that again!

Of course I am over excited about Thief!! I played the others way back then and saw Deadly Shadows again recently and bought it for £1.00. It was purely nostalgia and I already had TWO DISCS with it on because when I built my GeForce SLI computer with two Gigabyte 6800GTs I got a free copy with each card! That was before the now biased Custom PC Magazine did an artice on it and explained how tricky it was! Well it was but only took a couple of hours to figure out what was wrong and doing it correctly!

You had to manually install each driver TWICE.

I used to love buying that magazine but ever since it was taken over it started going down hill! I used to but it every single month once upon a time and from the day ot was launched. It was the best thing since sliced bread but now if I flick through the pages a shiver goes down my spine, lol.

They make such backwards statements and they really do not think things through before they make them, which leads to my own personal conclusion that it is all money driven?! Considering that magazines are now basically book prices, or at least some of them, it is fecking appalling if their are any so-called journalists out there taking money to report false truths. Or even just misleading ones!

Maybe it is just from my understanding of computing and gaming that I understand that it matters not what fast hardware you have now, but that which will be mostly optimised for in a year or two!

Custom PC seem to think quite differently to this and despite the fact that every single one of the biggest games producing companies on the planet will all be coding this way they still promote something that is good for non-gaming software along with current and older games.

Now with that in mind and the fact that the very top AMD Kaveri chips are capable of said games at pretty decent levels, considering the prices, and then realise that not only is everything going to be optimised for them in the future but that with the launch of the PS4 and XBox One these games have likely been in development for up to two years!

Ao everyone talks about it like its two years into the future before you will see this stuff and I think this is extremely narrow minded. AMD must have been working with software houses for a long time over the PS4 and XBox One? You do not launch a games console wothout several games that take advanrage of the higher power. Once coding this way they will continue to do so and I for one am very interested to see how things go between now and Christmas 2014?! VERY INTERESTED! LMFAO!
